GREATNESS OF ISLAM – Sculpture by Salvador Dali
GREATNESS OF ISLAM
“In my family tree, my Arab lineage, which goes back to the time of Cervantes, has been almost definitely established…” Salvador Dali
“In my family tree, my Arab lineage, which goes right back to the time of Cervantes, has been almost definitively established…. and from these origins …comes my love for everything golden and excessive, my passion for luxury and my fascination for eastern costumes.” Salvador Dali
Salvador wanted this sculpture to reflect the greatness of Islam which, in his opinion, was demonstrated in the way it unifies dogmas and precepts of Arabs, Jews, Christians and Gnostics and in the great geographical expansion it has undergone. The evil dragon is here deified through the Koran carried together with the half-moon Islamic symbol below its claws.
